We were lucky to have perfect spring weather on our visit to Elyse Winery. Molly, the Portuguese Water Dog, greeted us as we made our way to the small but cozy tasting room. Once there, we were joined by our host, Rick. You do need an appointment to visit Elyse Winery so make sure and call ahead.

We tasted:

2010 Chardonnay – Sonoma fruit on 30% new French oak and zero malolactic fermentation. This presented as nicely balanced and lighter than expected.

2008 Le Corbeau – This was our favorite. A blend of 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah titled Black Bird (The Raven). Great mouth feel, complex yet balanced introduction and surprisingly long finish. Overall, very unique.

2008 Syrah – Napa Valley fruit, rich, deep taste that will go best with food.

2008 Zinfandel Morisoli Vineyard – This is one of the signature wines at Elyse. It is what people remember and want to experience again and again, year after year.

2007 Jacob Franklin Mon Chou – This was our other favorite. An amazing Bordeaux blend with strong Cab Franc influence. Beautiful presentation, exotic labeling, and even better taste. This is a “must have” for the price.

2007 Morisoli Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon – Big wine that will only get better with time.

2010 Petite Sirah – This was an extra special treat… Thank you Rick. This is one of the best Petite Sirah wines in the valley. We will definitely buy a couple bottles of this every year.
